To ask the Secretary of State for Health

(1) what steps he plans to take to ensure that clinical data from pharmaceutical companies on drugs over 15 years old are made available to clinical researchers;

(2) what steps his Department is taking to advance and promote transparency in the pharmaceutical industry in publishing data on drugs over 15 years old.

The Government encourage the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry to work with its members to share and promote best practice on clinical trial data transparency and data sharing. The new Clinical Trials Regulation that will be formally adopted by the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament in April or May this year obliges the European Commission to produce a guideline on the formatting and sharing of raw data on a voluntary basis.
