To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received from Raytheon regarding a Maritime Patrol version of the Sentinel R.1 aircraft.

As part of an invitation to industry to provide ideas to inform our Air Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance Optimisation Study, representatives of Raytheon have held discussions with officials from the Ministry of Defence. These have included the possibility of modifying the radar on Sentinel to provide a maritime surface search capability, though this would not constitute a full maritime patrol aircraft capability.
