Home Department written question – answered at on 27 February 2013.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the revised Communications Data Bill will be published.
The Government is committed to legislating to ensure the law enforcement and intelligence agencies continue to have access to the communications data they need. The Joint Committee that scrutinised the draft Bill recognised the importance of communications data as an investigative tool and accepted that there was
'a case for legislation which will provide the law enforcement authorities with some further access to communications data.'
A revised Communications Data Bill, incorporating the recommendations of the Joint Committee, will be introduced at the earliest possible opportunity.
