Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs written question – answered at on 14 January 2013.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had with the Israeli authorities on the recording of police interviews with children.
During his visit to Israel in November 2012 the Attorney-General, my right hon. and learned Friend Mr Grieve, raised the issue of audio-visual recording of interviews with Palestinian children held in Israeli military detention, as recommended in an independent report by British legal experts, with the Israeli Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and other senior interlocuters. Mr Weinstein agreed to further talks between UK and British legal experts on the subject. This followed previous discussions between the British embassy in Tel Aviv and the Israeli authorities on this and other recommendations made in the June 2012 report.
