To ask the Secretary of State for Health when his Department last undertook a review of the scientific evidence on when human life begins that drew on (a) UK and (b) international research; and if he will make a statement.
A court case in 2002 about emergency contraception ruled that pregnancy commences when a fertilised egg is implanted in the womb. The Government has undertaken no further review of when pregnancy or life begins, but we do monitor research and evidence on these important issues.
