Dogs: Breeding
Environment Food and Rural Affairs

Lindsay Roy (Glenrothes, Labour)
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if he will bring forward new regulations to govern puppy farms.

David Heath (Somerton and Frome, Liberal Democrat)
There are no proposals to introduce new measures governing the welfare of dogs in breeding establishments. The Government consider that the existing law on dog breeding and general animal welfare, coupled with the work of the Advisory Council on the Welfare Issues of Dog Breeding and representative bodies of the industry, provides appropriate protection for dogs in breeding establishments.
