Food technology is currently part of design and technology which is a compulsory national curriculum subject in primary schools. On 11 June 2012, the Secretary of State for Education, my right hon. Friend Michael Gove, announced that design and technology would continue to be compulsory in the new national curriculum for primary schools. We are currently considering what the national curriculum programme of study for design and technology should cover and will make an announcement in due course.
