To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether she has discussed with (a) G4S and (b) others the recruitment to serve in security roles at the London 2012 Olympics of experienced retired personnel from Northern Ireland who have served in both the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Army.

The contract to provide security guards for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is between the London Organising Committee, LOCOG, and G4S. I understand that applications for security roles from former police and military personnel were especially welcomed in view of their background and experience. We are grateful to the Police Service of Northern Ireland for their help in providing officers under mutual aid arrangements, funded by the Home Office, to help deliver a safe and secure Games.
