Israel
House of Lords

Lord Hylton (Crossbench)
To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of reports that Syrian curricula have been replaced by Israeli ones in schools in the occupied Golan Heights; and, if the reports are correct, whether they will make representations to the Government of Israel regarding the application of the Fourth Geneva Convention in the Golan Heights.

Lord Howell of Guildford (Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office; Conservative)
We are not aware of recent reports of curricula being replaced in schools in the Golan Heights. However, we understand that the Druze residents of the Golan Heights have had separate education curriculum designed and implemented by the state of Israel, since the 1970s.
We continue to call on Israel to comply with its obligations under international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, in all the territories it occupies, including the Golan Heights.
