To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport what discussions he has had with the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the introduction of VAT on income from the hire of all-weather sports facilities; and if he will make a statement.

No specific discussions have taken place between my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport and my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the introduction of VAT on income from the hire of all-weather sports facilities. However, I have written to my hon. Friend the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury about the VAT treatment of commercially operated sports leagues, which would include the operation of all-weather sports facilities.
