Youth Centres
House of Lords

Lord Fearn (Liberal Democrat)
To ask Her Majesty's Government how many youth centres belonging to local authorities were closed in (1) 2010, (2) 2011, and (3) 2012 to date.

Lord Hill of Oareford (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Education; Conservative)
Information about the number of youth centres belonging to local authorities is not held centrally. Local authorities are accountable to their councillors and to local people for how they prioritise and allocate their available resources.
The Government have, however, secured £141 million over 2011-13 to complete a network of high quality Myplace youth centres in 63 of the most disadvantaged areas of the country. These will be hubs for a wide range of services, transforming the local offer for young people and in many cases hosting National Citizen Service teams.
