To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will extend the business rate relief scheme to 2015; and if he will make a statement.

At the autumn statement, 29 November 2011, Official Report, columns 799-810, the Government extended the small business rate relief holiday for a further six months from 1 October 2012. The small business rate relief scheme provides targeted support and benefits over half a million small businesses. Of those, 330,000 receive 100% relief and will not have to pay any business rates until April 2013 as a result of the six month extension.

The Government keeps all taxes and reliefs under review. Any further business rates support needs to be balanced against the tough decisions needed to reduce the deficit.
