To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport with reference to his meeting with James Murdoch on 28 June 2010, what advice he received from his Department before the meeting on (a) whether a civil servant should attend, (b) what subjects should be discussed and (c) what record should be made.

I was not informed that an official should be present. However, in light of recent events, it is now my Department's practice that officials should attend such meetings.

This was one of a number of informal introductory meetings I held with various leaders across the media landscape. No minutes were taken, but the main points of discussion were local TV and broadband.
