On joining the police service, all officers undertake a two-year initial Police Learning and Development Programme. Within this programme, police officers and police community support officers are provided with training in dealing with people who are vulnerable through disability, mental ill health or learning disabilities.

The Home Office does not collect information on complaints about police handling of suspects with autism.
