Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs

Nigel Dodds (Belfast North, DUP)
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent assessment he has made of the Libyan government's relations with (a) the EU and (b) NATO.

Alistair Burt (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Afghanistan/South Asia, counter terrorism/proliferation, North America, Middle East and North Africa), Foreign and Commonwealth Office; North East Bedfordshire, Conservative)
The EU has established a mission in Tripoli and is providing support to the Libyan Transitional Government in a number of key areas including the media sector, civil society and border management. The EU and Libya have also agreed to hold a high level meeting after elections in Libya in the summer to discuss next steps in the relationship. The Libyan Transitional Government has also engaged with NATO. Libya was invited to—and attended—the NATO Mediterranean Dialogue Policy Advisory Group meeting in Rabat in March.
