Houses of Parliament: Heating
House of Lords

Lord Hoyle (Labour)
To ask the Chairman of Committees whether the same boiler supplies heating for both Houses of Parliament within the Palace of Westminster.

Lord Brabazon of Tara (Crossbench)
The main boiler house within the Palace of Westminster comprises a set of three steam boilers. The boilers typically operate with two in use and the third as a standby, thereby providing resilience within the system. There is a single steam pipework distribution system from the plant room which serves the heating and hot water requirements of both Houses simultaneously.
