To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Government's proposed amendment to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill to prohibit cash payments to purchase scrap metal and increase the fines for offences under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964 will affect the sale of precious metals.

The Government's proposed amendment to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill will cover all metals that are processed by 'scrap metal dealers' as defined by the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964, which may include some precious metals.
