We are determined to raise standards in underperforming schools. This is why in his speech to the National College of School Leadership on 16 June, the Secretary of State for Education, my right hon. Friend, Michael Gove, announced that as an urgent priority, we will start work on turning around 200 of the most consistently underperforming primary schools by finding academy sponsors for them. We are currently working with all local authorities to discuss their worst performing schools with a particular focus on 10 local authorities with the highest number of schools below the floor across the regions.
