To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what the target time is for his Department to approve the transfer of mentally ill offenders from prisons to alternative hospitals; and what the average time taken was in the latest period for which figures are available.
Recommendations for the transfer of prisoners who need treatment in hospital for a mental disorder are considered as a priority with an internal target of 24 hours from receipt of all information required by the Mental Health Act 1983 to the issue of the transfer direction. In the three months from
