To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills what estimate he has made of the value to the economy of the chemical industry in the North West.

Latest regional financial figures (2009) suggest that the chemicals industry in the north-west generated nearly £7 billion in turnover and contributed around £1.8 billion in value added to the UK economy. Employment data show that in 2010 the north-west chemicals industry had a total employment of 21,000.
