To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what discussions his Department has had with (a) the International Maritime Organisation, (b) Shrivenham Defence College, (c) the International Institute for Strategic Studies, (d) Newport News and (e) other external bodies on naval doctrine concerning the threat of piracy.

The Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre, located with the Defence Academy at Shrivenham, is integral to the Ministry of Defence and its work informs development of naval doctrine. The Department also has good links with the International Maritime Organisation, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the US Maritime Warfare Development Organisations and other international bodies, including NATO and the EU, and conducts routine liaison including on the issue of counter piracy.
