I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the exceptional efforts and sacrifices of the Royal Irish Regiment and Irish Guards in Afghanistan, in particular Lance Corporal Stephen McKee from 1st Battalion the Royal Irish Regiment who was killed on 9 March 2011.

I am aware that the Ministry of Defence are in the early planning stages for several events both in Northern Ireland and in GB and will give any such events my full support.
