Prisoners: Voting
House of Lords

Lord Taylor of Warwick (Non-affiliated)
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have to give prisoners the vote.

Lord McNally (Minister of State, Justice; Liberal Democrat)
The Government are considering the next steps on prisoner voting rights in view of the strength of feeling on this issue in the UK, as demonstrated by the recent debates in Parliament. The Government have sought to refer the Greens and MT judgment against the UK to the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. If the Grand Chamber agrees to the referral they will look again at the case and issue their own judgment.
