The Education Bill published on 27 January aims to provide teachers with protection from false allegations by giving them a legal right to anonymity from allegations made by or on behalf of pupils until the point they are charged with a criminal offence, minimising the damage that false accusations can cause. Reporting restrictions will apply to any allegation of a possible criminal offence made by or on behalf of a registered pupil at the school, whether by a parent, friend or member of staff. Any publication of such an allegation that identifies the teacher involved will be in breach of the restrictions.
