To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many days were lost through sickness absence in the NHS in (a) 2008 and (b) 2009.
The information is not available in the format requested. The data collected are the sickness absence rate, i.e. the percentage of available working time lost to sickness absence.
The sickness absence rate in the national health service was 4.4%, in the 12 months April 2008 to March 2009 and 4.4% in the 12 months April 2009 to March 2010.
