To ask the Secretary of State for Health what recent representations his Department has received in support of a minimum unit price for alcoholic products.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence issued public health guidance, "Alcohol-use disorders: preventing the development of hazardous and harmful drinking" in June. The guidance recommended that Government consider reviewing alcohol pricing and duty to reduce the affordability of alcohol, and to consider introducing a minimum price per unit.
In May, Tesco wrote to the Department saying it would support the Government in the event of a decision to introduce minimum unit pricing.
The Department has received correspondence supporting minimum unit price from the public. However, identifying the exact number could be done only at disproportionate cost.
