To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what recent progress has been made on the design of the next generation of the nuclear deterrent; what schedule has been prepared for its development and introduction into service; and if he will make a statement.

Work on the Concept Phase for the future deterrent programme is progressing well. The Defence Board will be considering this work later this year. As we have previously said, we will update Parliament after the Concept Phase has been completed. We are currently planning on an In Service Date of 2024.
