To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many children under the age of 17 were subject to legal proceedings following their role in criminal activity in Northern Ireland in (a) 2003 and (b) 2008.

The number of persons under the age of 17 prosecuted at court for an offence in 2003 was 1,068. In 2006 (the latest year for which figures are available), 923 persons were prosecuted.
