To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how many industrial injury claims for beat knee and osteoarthritis of the knee were submitted in advance of the July start date for compensation payments.

4,834 claims for osteoarthritis of the knee were received before the law came into force on
Prescribed Disease A6, commonly known as 'Beat Knee', has been on the list of diseases covered by the scheme since 1958. There were 880 new claims for Prescribed Disease A6 received during the period October 2007 to September 2008. This is the latest full year validated figures held for that disease.
