To ask Her Majesty's Government what is the anticipated lead time for building new gas-fired power stations.

In the Government's Energy Markets Outlook, published in October 2007, we indicated that the lead time for a gas-fired power station could be expected to be around five years, including two years for design, planning consent, project planning and permitting, two years for construction, and six months for commissioning.
