Saudi Arabia: Human Rights
Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
David Laws (Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Work & Pensions; Yeovil, Liberal Democrat)
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on how many occasions since 1 May 1997 the UK Government has made representations to the Government of Saudi Arabia about human rights abuses; and if she will make a statement.
Kim Howells (Minister of State (Middle East), Foreign & Commonwealth Office; Pontypridd, Labour)
We regularly discuss our concerns about human rights with the Saudi authorities at all levels. Human rights are also raised on our behalf by the European Union, which has decided to keep the details of these discussions confidential.
