To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many ministerial approvals have been given for the detention of a child in an immigration detention centre for more than 28 days in each month of 2006; and if he will make a statement.

Ministers review and authorise detention of children beyond 28 days where necessary on a weekly basis; we only seek to detain families with children for more than 28 days in exceptional circumstances.
