Salvia Divinorum
Home Department

Miss Ann Widdecombe (Maidstone and The Weald, Conservative)
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to review the legal status of the hallucinogen Salvia divinorum.

Mr Bob Ainsworth (Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Home Office; Coventry North East, Labour)
The Government are not aware of any evidence of significant misuse of this plant and have no current plans to review its legal status. The Medicines Control Agency investigates the trade in so-called "herbal highs" and can prosecute suppliers of unlicensed medicinal products.
