To ask the Scottish Executive how many junior doctors or full-time equivalents were employed by the NHS on 1 August 2009.

Information on junior doctors as at 1 August 2009 is not centrally available. NHS Scotland staff in post information is collected annually through a census as at 30 September. The relevant figures for 2008 are shown in the following table:
