Peak Oil
First Minister's Question Time
12:00 pm

Rt Hon Alex Salmond (Scottish National Party)
On a global level, there has been considerable debate about whether peak oil has occurred. We should remember that significant reserves remain in the North Sea and that the Scottish oil and gas industry, which is of enormous economic importance to Scotland, will remain a vital sector of our economy for decades to come.
However, we are also clear that Scotland needs to make a transition to a low carbon economy, with an energy supply that is diverse and sustainable and which contributes to Scotland's wealth. The Scottish Government is determined to take a global lead in such a transition—the 80 per cent CO2 reduction target in the forthcoming climate change bill makes that clear. That is a challenging target, but I am sure that it will have the support of Patrick Harvie and his colleague.

80% is an expensive nonsense, is unachievable and will be quietly forgotten in a few short years as it becomes even more apparent that climate changes independently of CO2 levels.
Peak oil is another myth, new resources are being discovered daily in the South Alantic and the UK is currently re-inforcing its claims around the Falklands.
There are vast reserves in the US which the green-vote seeking democrats will not allow to be exploited. Canada has major reserves in the Alberta oil sands. There are hundreds of years of coal deposits around the globe, including the UK, which could be used to ease the pressure on oil and gas if it were not for the massive CO2 scam.
With a higher price, existing reserves yield more oil at greater depths. It always amazes me that MP's are so prepared to listen to agenda-driven press releases from NGO's, rather than discover the realities for themselves.
