Student Debt (20 Jun 2001): Mr David Drew: ...with her during the next few years. I am pleased to have this opportunity to talk about student debt. It is an issue to which I have given some consideration. It was pure coincidence that the topic of last night's "File on Four" was student debt. I cannot pretend that I did not listen to the programme, but many of the ideas that I intend to introduce tonight had already formed in my mind....

Date range:

You can give a start date, an end date, or both, to restrict results to a particular date range; a missing end date implies the current date, a missing start date implies the oldest date we have in the system. Dates can be entered in any format you wish, e.g. “3rd March 2007” or “17/10/1989”.
Person:
Enter a name here to restrict results to contributions only by that person.
Section:
Restrict results to a particular parliament or assembly that we cover (e.g. the Scottish Parliament), or a particular type of data within an institution, such as Commons Written Answers.
Column:
If you know the actual column number in Hansard you are interested in (perhaps you’re looking up a paper reference), you can restrict results to that.

TheyWorkForYou search is case-insensitive, and tries to match all the search terms within a document.
To search for a person, just enter their name – we will search our database of people, as well as searching speeches made by that person, or that mention that person.
To search for an exact phrase, use quotes (""). For example to find only documents contain the exact phrase "Hutton Report":
"hutton report"
To exclude a word from your search, put a minus ("-") sign in front, for example to find documents containing the word "representation" but not the word "taxation":
representation -taxation
If you want to search for words only when they're used near each other in the text, use "NEAR". For example, to find documents containing the word "elephant" near the word "room":
elephant NEAR room
Advanced Users: You can perform boolean searches, with brackets, AND, OR, and XOR. The filters can be entered directly, as well as from the advanced search form, here's a selection:
