- Health and Social Care (13 May 2013)
David Tredinnick: It is a pleasure to follow the hon. Member for Vale of Clwyd (Chris Ruane). I entirely agree with what he said about mindfulness and the need for NICE to ensure that it is available for the treatment of stress in particular. That is all the more important now that we have a Government who have put patient choice at the heart of the health service, a fact that will become more and more...
- Health and Social Care (13 May 2013)
David Tredinnick: The Secretary of State will be aware of widespread concern among the herbal medical community that there is no statutory regulation on that area in the Care Bill. Does he agree that if polymorbidity is to be dealt with we must have firm regulation, and that just licensing herbs, as the European Union wants, would destroy the industry?
- Oral Answers to Questions — Health: Cancer (16 April 2013)
David Tredinnick: Is my hon. Friend aware that one of the most effective treatments in reducing the impact of prostate cancer is traditional Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture, and does she agree that it is crucial that we get the regulation of herbal practitioners in place as soon as we can?
- Written Answers — Leader of the House: Parliament Square: Demonstrations (20 March 2013)
David Tredinnick: To ask the Leader of the House what the approximate cost to the (a) Greater London Authority, (b) Metropolitan Police and (c) Westminster city council has been of the demonstration and campsite in Parliament square since it was established.
- Business of the House (14 March 2013)
David Tredinnick: My right hon. Friend might recall my raising at Prime Minister’s questions in November 2010 the situation in Parliament square, which I described as “a no-go area surrounded by a campsite”.—[ Official Report, 24 November 2010; Vol. 519, c. 257.] Our right hon. Friend the Prime Minister’s response was that he wanted it “sorted out” as quickly as...
- Energy and Climate Change: Alcohol: Minimum Unit Price (14 March 2013)
David Tredinnick: Does my hon. Friend agree that more needs to be done to keep pubs open so that people can drink under some supervision? If we are to do that, the price of drink in pubs must be considered. Will he discuss the beer duty escalator with the Chancellor?
- Reburial of King Richard III (12 March 2013)
David Tredinnick: Will my hon. Friend give way?
- Reburial of King Richard III (12 March 2013)
David Tredinnick: I am deeply grateful to the hon. Gentleman, whom I called my hon. Friend in a slip of the tongue. I have known him for many years. The overwhelming opinion in the county of Leicestershire is that King Richard III should be buried close to where he has lain for more than 500 years. I hope that, in the end, he finds himself at peace in Leicester cathedral.
- Oral Answers to Questions — Health: Topical Questions (26 February 2013)
David Tredinnick: May I alert my right hon. and hon. Friends to the recently published road map for complementary and alternative medicine in Europe, which cost the European Commission £1.5 million? Will they look at it carefully to see where services can be extended in our own national health service?
- Oral Answers to Questions — Prime Minister: Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust (Inquiry) (6 February 2013)
David Tredinnick: Will the Prime Minister ensure that the chief inspector of hospitals has access to all the information that he or she needs from the General Medical Council and all the other bodies? Does he agree that wards for the elderly in particular need regular inspections by nurses?
- Oral Answers to Questions — Health: Brain Tumours (27 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: Does my hon. Friend the Minister agree that Penny Brohn Cancer Care, based near Bristol, which offers a unique combination of physical, emotional and spiritual support designed to help patients live well with the impact of cancer, is an organisation that should be supported? Can she confirm that such organisations are eligible for funds from the cancer drugs fund?
- Women and Equalities: Women Bishops (22 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: I think it important for Parliament to express a view, but I also think that it would be better for us to pass a short Bill requiring female bishops. We need to put the Church out of its agony, and to end the antiquated voting system to which my hon. Friend has referred. Is my hon. Friend aware that there is nothing new about female bishops? There is a ninth-century mosaic in a Roman basilica...
- Points of Order (13 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: On a point of order, Mr Speaker. In fact, I have two points of order, and have given you notice of one of them, which is about Parliament square. As you are aware, the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 made it possible for the square to be cleared, but unfortunately the remaining demonstration seems to have expanded, and is clearly in breach of the “prohibited...
- Points of Order (13 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: rose—
- Points of Order (13 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: It is, Mr Speaker; I am most grateful. It will not have escaped your notice that last Monday, 5 November, another demonstration came down Whitehall and then blocked the main gates of Parliament at the time of the 10 pm Division, making it impossible for Members to enter the House via the normal route. I wonder whether you are satisfied with the situation, Mr Speaker, given that at the...
- Oral Answers to Questions — Justice: NHS Commissioning Board (Mandate) (13 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: My right hon. Friend’s statement will be widely welcomed, especially his emphasis on an integrated system based on the needs of people. Does he not agree, however, that there is far too little use of complementary medicine outside private health care, and that greater use of herbal medicine, acupuncture and the much under-utilised resource in this country of homeopathic medicine,...
- Business of the House (8 November 2012)
David Tredinnick: Will my right hon. Friend update the House on the situation in Parliament square? Despite the welcome clearing of the square, which made it available for the public and tourists during the Olympics and Paralympics. However, one small demonstration remains, which is trying to expand and is clearly breaking the law in using sleeping equipment at night and causing an obstruction. In addition,...
- Firearms Controls (31 October 2012)
David Tredinnick: I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for kindly giving me leave to intervene in his Adjournment debate. I wish to raise the issue of the Olympics, and the inability of our pistol team to train in the UK. Does he agree that although we must consolidate the legislation and perhaps ensure that it works more effectively, we should go back to Lord Cullen’s original suggestion, which would...
- Points of Order (23 October 2012)
David Tredinnick: On a point of order, Mr Speaker. The Government Chief Whip came to the House to move the writ for the Corby by-election, with Louise Mensch applying to become the steward of the Manor of Northstead in Yorkshire. The Opposition Chief Whip then came to the House to apply for the writs for Cardiff South and Penarth, and for Manchester Central, with Tony Lloyd also applying to become the steward...

David Tredinnick: Will my right hon. Friend extend the scope of personal budgets? They help not only patients, giving them wider choice, but carers, allowing them to leave their post.
