Jack Straw: We have no plans to build additional prisons in Essex, apart from the ones that have been announced. Jack Straw: ...hon. and learned Member for Kensington and Chelsea (Sir Malcolm Rifkind). The hon. and learned Member for Beaconsfield (Mr. Grieve) tries to make play of the fact that I was the architect of the Freedom of Information Act, and said that I was now trying to circumvent it. No, I am not trying to circumvent it; I am trying to apply an essential component of it. The Government would never...

Oral Answers to Questions — Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Freedom of Information Act 2000 (24 Feb 2009) has video

Jack Straw: I agree with my hon. Friend in both respects. The Freedom of Information Act is a package deal.
