Mark Prisk: Sudan's external debts were rescheduled under four bilateral debt agreements between 1979 and 1984. No payments have been received since May 1984. The total interest that has accrued up to 31 December 2010 on the defaulted amount of £173 million is £491 million. Sudan is a heavily indebted poor country (HIPC) and it is the Government's policy not to seek payment of debts owed by HIPCs.
