- Residential Roads (Adoption) (11 Nov 2009)
Sally Keeble: I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman, who is one of my parliamentary neighbours. The issue that he is highlighting is of great concern to my constituents too, in the new development at Bridleways. In various other streets, particularly Gorse close and Kingsthorpe, we have seen the results of a road not being brought up to adoptable standard. Thirty years or so down the line, people are living...
- Residential Roads (Adoption) (11 Nov 2009)
Sally Keeble: It is a bit more complicated than that. The borough council is also involved because it does not want dustcarts to go down the roads. The upshot of all this is that several social housing tenants have been left homeless. One of them has been homeless for 18 months and living on a caravan site because she cannot get into her home as the roads have not been adopted.
- Residential Roads (Adoption) (11 Nov 2009)
Sally Keeble: In the case of Bridleways, it is not just the roads that cause the complication. There are also problems to do with the gradient, the layout and planning permission. A major issue is the need for proper partnership working between the different local authorities to ensure that arrangements are in place for the roads to be adopted and that there are the right enforcement powers so that people...
- Olympics: Energy National Policy Statements (9 Nov 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: Does my right hon. Friend agree that a lot of people want to know not only that the lights will stay on, but that they can also afford the bills? What assurances can he provide to people that the energy mix he set out will provide secure and affordable energy supply?
- Business of the House (5 Nov 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: My right hon. and learned Friend shares my concerns about the position of women in the financial services industry, but does she share my concern that the Government mandate for the Walker review on banking governance does not refer specifically to the position of women in banking? Will she organise a debate on that important subject, so that we can ensure justice for women in the financial...
- Family Finances (27 Oct 2009)
Sally Keeble: Could my hon. Friend comment on the position of a husband and wife, or partners, who both work and who just fail to qualify? Might there be a way in which they could pool their entitlements so that the household qualifies for a pension?
- Family Finances (27 Oct 2009)
Sally Keeble: I am grateful for the opportunity to debate this important subject, which goes to the heart of public concerns about the recession. All of us know just how hard it is for hard-working families to cope in the recession, and adapting to the changing circumstances has produced some major changes in family life that I suspect will become permanent—more women as breadwinners and more men...
- Oral Answers to Questions — Home Department: Territorial Army (26 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: Having spent some time with the TA as part of the armed forces parliamentary scheme, I am sure that my hon. Friend would wish to join in the tributes to the outstanding work that they have done. Does he accept that for people who have repeatedly been out to Afghanistan and Iraq this will look like a very poor return for their enormous service on the front line?
- Oral Answers to Questions — Home Department: Topical Questions (26 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: When will my right hon. Friend bring forward the final code on alcohol sales, as promised in the Policing and Crime Bill? Will it deal with the problem of cut-price promotions in shops, pubs and clubs?
- Economic Recovery (22 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: Will my hon. Friend give way?
- Economic Recovery (22 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: Does my hon. Friend agree with the reports by the Treasury Select Committee, which scrutinised the issue? Although we on the Committee found that complex considerations were at play, we did not find that people had given advance warning of the crisis, and we supported the Government's measured approach to many of the issues—in particular, their support for the banking industry.
- Points of Order (22 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. I understand that you are looking at making arrangements for the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills to come here to answer questions. Will you include in your consideration the Secretary of State for Transport, as well? He does not answer questions here and does not come to our constituencies, so there is no way in which we can hold him...
- Business of the House (22 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: Is my right hon. and learned Friend aware that Yvonne Hossack, the heroic lawyer who fought off efforts to get her struck off, is now facing her fourth audit in five years and action from Wolverhampton council to get a civil restraint order and costs against her for standing up for a 106-year-old woman? Will my right hon. and learned Friend organise a debate on the supervision of solicitors...
- Oral Answers to Questions — Transport: Rail Services (22 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: What steps he is taking to improve rail services for Northampton.
- Oral Answers to Questions — Transport: Rail Services (22 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: I am grateful for that answer, but is the Minister aware of the local concerns about the urgent need for real, substantial long-term improvements to the train service? There is local anger about the day-to-day management of services, including cancellations, overcrowding and the farcical failure of the train company to get even the announcements on trains right. Will he or one of his...
- Oral Answers to Questions — International Development: East Africa (21 Oct 2009) has video
Sally Keeble: Does my hon. Friend agree that children who are hungry in east Africa face particular problems? Will he therefore commend the work of the Schools for Africa School Meal Deal, and the School Food Trust's Really Good School Dinner campaign? They provide practical support for children in school and community-based feeding schemes and also persuade children here about the importance of providing...
- Opposition Day — [18th Allotted Day]: Economic Recovery and Welfare (19 Oct 2009)
Sally Keeble: The title of the debate is "Economic recovery and welfare". So far, there have been a lot of history lessons about the economy but not much attention has been given to the welfare aspect of the debate. That is what I want to talk about, however, because as we come out of this recession it is becoming clear that it has changed social attitudes and the reality of life for lots of families, and...
- Opposition Day — [18th Allotted Day]: Economic Recovery and Welfare (19 Oct 2009)
Sally Keeble: I have just said that I would like UKFI to give a much clearer mandate on issues such as bonuses. However, I have defended to my constituents the fact that if the Government had not stepped in to support the banks when they did and the banks had collapsed—some people did say, "Let them go to the wall"—my constituents would now be in a much worse position. I am happy to argue that...
