I share the hon. Gentleman’s concern to ensure that academies keep a good degree of autonomy. However, how much autonomy is he talking about? For example, if an academy seeks to use powers to select a higher ability intake than exists in the local catchment area, how would that be dealt with under his model of autonomy? Or would he be quite relaxed about that?
