Jacqui Lait (Shadow Minister, Communities and Local Government; Beckenham, Conservative)

I add our thanks to those people who worked so hard to ensure that that sub-station was not flooded last July. When I was the Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye I spent the whole of one Christmas and new year on tenterhooks as to whether Rye was going to flood because we had some very heavy rain. I know exactly how nail-biting it can be to watch the waters rise. That is why I take such a personal interest in this issue.

I am grateful to the Minister for laying out his argument so clearly. I hope that it has been heard beyond this room. If there are any further questions, we might come back to the issue. However, on the basis of what the Minister has said, I beg to ask leave to withdraw the amendment.
