Having dealt so explicitly with the first half of my question, can the hon. Lady answer the second part about the attitudes of members of the public whom we represent? At the moment, they have a fragile sense of confidence in the criminal justice system. What tests of public opinion have been carried out about this dumbing-down of justice?
