Schedule 12
Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Bill [Lords]
4:30 pm

Vera Baird (Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Department for Constitutional Affairs; Redcar, Labour)
I thought I had made it clear that if we were to preserve the common law as the amendments request, we would preserve the queer old precedents that allow people to put their foot through the skylight and enter. They are odd cases that have occurred over the years, and this stuff is very old, as everybody has conceded, but the notion that oldness and veneration are virtues is completely misplaced when it comes to such matters. We must prescribe the way in which people can enter the property and totally erase from the law the remaining modes of entry.
