Clause 5
Pensions Bill
9:10 am

James Purnell (Minister of State (Pensions Reform), Department for Work and Pensions; Stalybridge and Hyde, Labour)
I am very interested in what the hon. Gentleman is saying. Will he clarify something? His party’s policy is to abolish the state second pension. Through the state second pension, millions of people receive about £135 a week, which is more than the guaranteed pension credit of £115 a week. So would his party reduce the amount that those people receive to £115 a week? If not, how is his party’s package affordable?
