I thought that the hon. Gentleman would recognise that I was being ironic. There is an important issue about not just considering legislation in the context of the here and now, and the current occupants of such offices, but being aware of other possibilities in future. For that reason, and because too much power is already vested in the Secretary of State—with little indication of counterbalance by way of public accountability, as was said earlier—it is important that the Minister gives serious consideration to the amendment. I look forward to hearing what he has to say about it.
