Obviously, an emergency is an instant admission to save somebody from committing suicide. One of the psychiatrists who said to me that he was sure that he had saved lives by admitting—inappropriately, as it were—patients to an adult ward, also said, “For goodness’ sake, do not legislate for new duties and requirements for us without providing us with the resources to comply.” That is an important message for us all to bear in mind as we legislate.
