I must say that the hon. Lady’s comments were much more measured than those of the hon. Member for Broxbourne, who rather let himself down. However, I want to be clear about what she is saying. Is she saying that clinical psychologists, nurse consultants and all the people who work in mental health and who want to take on these additional roles are going to turn into people who would lock others up wrongly, unlike the psychiatrists? Is she saying that if we were to leave matters in psychiatrists’ hands, everything would be okay, but that the Government will use those health care professionals to lock people up? It is grossly insulting to them even to think that they could be used in that way.
