Clause 4
Mental Health Bill [Lords]
9:45 am

Rosie Winterton (Minister of State (Health Services), Department of Health; Doncaster Central, Labour)
No, it was not. The British Psychological Society probably says that we should go ahead and do it. It is saying that it recognises that this approach will mean that a very small number of people believed to be at risk of self-harm or suicide would be permitted to refuse treatment if their decision-making was not considered to be significantly impaired. It accepts the approach taken by Opposition Members, that there will be people who would go away and commit suicide.
