I do not want to labour the point, as I accept the amendments, but it needs pinning down. Unfortunately, the certification officer’s letter to me did not answer my question about what rights the individuals concerned have. I do not think that they are covered by the definition of a member of a trade union, which, as I understand it, means someone who voluntarily joins a union to get its benefits. They joined on associate membership with no rights whatever, so the matter needs clearing up.
